EUMM organises performance event for Internally Displaced Children

21.07.2009
On the 17 of July, The EU Monitoring Mission through its Field Office in Mtskheta organised a performance event involving Internally Displaced Children from BAZALETI, PREZETI and TSILKANI. The event consisted of a theatrical production performed by the IDP children from these settlements (dancing, singing, drama playing), followed by a professional performance in return for the children to enjoy by the Mask Theatre from Kutaisi.
About 180 children from the three settlements participated in the event, out of which about 50 performed showing great skills and an enthusiastic attitude on the stage. The children fully enjoyed the programme and they finished the day with refreshments and small gift bags from EUMM. Other participants were representatives of central institutions, like MRA, local authorities (the governor and municipalities office), NGOs, press (DUSHETI television and MTSKHETA newspaper), Georgian companies and local people.
The event was co-organised together with the local municipalities of MTSKHETA and DUSHETI, NGOs Terre des Hommes and the Urban Institute.
Donations from private individuals and Georgian businesses (like ALDAGI, WISSOL, Professional Union of Roads and Transport) were collected, in all around 2000 lari, which will be used by the municipalities to organize a special trip for the children. The EUMM hopes such events will continue in the future and this will encourage also other organizations to do so.
