The twenty eighth meeting of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM), chaired by the United Nations, took place in Gali on 21 June 2011.
In a constructive and professional manner, participants exchanged additional information on a specific case concerning the detention of a local resident. This discussion also included the findings of the ad-hoc fact finding team created in the framework of the IPRM, who had visited the alleged places of the detention claimed by both sides. In addition, new information on other detention cases and reported attempts of committing terrorist acts was provided.
Participants also discussed other recent incidents, emphasising once again the need to respect the right of the local people to unimpeded freedom of movement, and expressing concern regarding the alleged forced questioning of individuals crossing the Enguri River.
The next meeting of the IPRM will take place in Gali on 14 July 2011.
