Damon Wilson, the Executive Vice-President of the Atlantic Council paid a visit to EUMM on 09 April. Almost five years after the August 2008 conflict, he stressed the importance of finding pragmatic solutions to assist local communities living along the Administrative Boundary Lines with Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
He also showed interest in EUMM’s overall strategy for the future and the Mission’s relations with the new government. Mr. Wilson’s discussions with EUMM’s management took place ahead of the visit to the Mission on 11 May of the Enhanced Partnership in Northern Europe (e-PINE), the US State Department’s framework for activity within and in cooperation with the eight Nordic and Baltic States, namely Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden.
The three broad areas of focus for cooperation between the United States and the Nordic and Baltic States under e-PINE include cooperative security, healthy societies and vibrant economies.
