“Plavi has got talent”

27.05.2013
A patrol from EUMM’s Field Office in Gori visited Plavi, a village along the Administrative Boundary Line with South Ossetia, on 23 May.

A few weeks earlier, within the framework of EU Day, EUMM launched a competition, prompting school children to make drawings, write poems or resort to any other means of artistic expression around the European Union’s motto of “Unity in Diversity”.

In an opening speech, EUMM’s Spokesperson Ann Vaessen addressed the children, their teachers and parents in order to introduce the core values of the European Union and explain EUMM’s mandate and day-to-day patrolling activities.

As in preceding outreach activities, the Gori Disabled Club staged a series of dances, songs and poetry reading sessions related to peace and tolerance. These were followed by a theatre play performed by some of the schoolchildren.

“These joint performances highlight the strength of diversity,” EUMMs Spokesperson said, thanking the school children and their teachers for their warm welcome and their efforts in preparing numerous artistic performances.

At the end of the event, EUMM medals were distributed to the three winners of the drawing competition. “Plavi has got talent,” said Michael Vinding, a monitor from EUMM’s Field Office in Gori, referring to the famous TV show.

A similar event will take place in Keltseuli on 30 May, where EUMM monitors will be joined by the EU Delegation’s mobile information centre.
