EUMM launches Special Prize for Peace Journalism

The European Union Monitoring Mission together with the Delegation of the European Union in Georgia has launched the 2016 EU Prize for Journalism in Georgia.

The Prize encourages professionalism and ethical conduct in Georgian journalism, by awarding yearly the best work in print, broadcast, online, and photo journalism. The Prize is awarded in seven categories for works published or aired between 2 November 2015, through 1 November 2016. The categories are:

• The EUMM Special Prize for Peace Journalism for the best conflict-sensitive journalistic work contributing to confidence-building and peace in the context of armed conflicts in Georgia, displaying high standards of journalistic ethics and professionalism;
Best written story in print or online news media;
Best audio or audio-visual story in broadcast or online news media;
Best written investigative story in print or online news media;
Best investigative audio or audio-visual story in broadcast or online news media;
• Best online or print blog, opinion or column in print or online news media;
Best documentary photo reflecting EU values and published in print or online news media.

The winner of the EUMM Special Prize for Peace Journalism, will receive a one month fellowship with the Institute of War and Peace Reporting in London. The winners of the other categories will receive 1,250 Euros each. The deadline for submission of entries is 1 November 2016. Head of the European Union Monitoring Mission Kęstutis Jankauskas launched the 2016 The EUMM Special Prize for Peace Journalism at the press conference at the Citadines Hotel in Tbilisi.
