On 25 April, the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) received a visit from four members of the Spanish Parliament. With 11 Spanish staff in the Mission the Parliamentarians were keen to get an insight into EUMM’s work on the ground.
The Head of Mission, Ambassador Hansjörg Haber, briefed the four parliamentarians about EUMM’s mandate, structure and role.
Ambassador Haber explained the confidence building measures currently being carried out to bring stability and security to both sides of the administrative boundary lines. He also set out the efforts by EUMM to implement the incident prevention mechanism adopted at the last round of the Geneva talks and the proceedings of the first meeting under the mechanism that took place last Thursday 23 April.
The European parliamentarians were also very interested in learning more about the situation of IDPs in Georgia.
As part of their visit the parliamentarians had meetings with several representatives of the Georgian Parliament and political parties.
