The second meeting under the terms of the Incident Prevention and Response mechanism covering the Abkhaz theatre took place in Gali on Tuesday 28 July. Representatives from the de facto Abkhaz, Georgian and Russian authorities took part under the chairmanship of the United Nations. General Gilles Janvier, the Deputy Head of the EU Monitoring Mission represented the EUMM.
Key practical issues having been sorted out at the first meeting, this meeting was able to move on to discuss a number of substantive matters, including past and current incidents and the movement of the local population across the administrative boundary line. The talks were described as “constructive” and “productive”.
It was agreed that the next meeting will take place on 11 August, also in Gali.
