On 4 June, the Humanitarian and Human Rights Team from EUMM Field Office Mtskheta
organised a human rights workshop at Sasireti School near Kaspi.
The workshop was centred on a mock trial of an individual whose Human Rights had been violated. Three groups of 16 year old students performed the roles of the defence council, a prosecuting team and the jury. Students had prepared for this trial by doing tasks aimed at developing their understanding of the Human Rights Law, given to them in advance. The classroom was set out as a courtroom with a Judge presiding over the event. The court session took place in front of approximately 70 persons (parents, teachers and other students) and lasted for over two hours. Compelling arguments were delivered by both sides, which not only demonstrated their knowledge of the topic but showed their commitment and enthusiasm for the task. Incidentally, the alleged violation was upheld and the person subjected to the violation was granted their rights.
The Event was warmly received by the headmistress and the students, who received certificates signed by the Head of Mission.
