On 16 March 2011, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania and OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Mr Audronius Ažubalis, paid a visit to the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia. He was accompanied by the Lithuanian Ambassador to Georgia, Mr Ionas Paslauskas and the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Special Representative, Mr Giedrius Čekuolis.
At EUMM Field Office Mtskheta the delegation was briefed by the Head of EUMM, Ambassador Hansjörg Haber, on the achievements and challenges of the Mission, the environment in which it operates as well as the prospects for conflict resolution.
Subsequently the delegation went on a patrol with Field Office Mtskheta to the Internally Displaced Persons’ (IDPs) Settlement in Tserovani and the village of Mukhrani as well as to the check point at Odzisi at the Administrative Boundary Line (ABL) with South Ossetia. They discussed the humanitarian situation of the IDPs and the security situation in the vicinity of the ABL.
Minister Ažubalis expressed Lithuania’s continued support for EUMM’s objectives and appreciation of its contribution to security and stability in the region.
