EUMM presents successful women

04.03.2012
In celebration of International Women’s Day, Mtskheta Field Office (FOM) of the EU Monitoring Mission set up a meeting between female representatives of the Georgian Police and Army on the one hand, and senior pupils from the three public schools in Dusheti on the other. The event took place on 2 March, in Dusheti Cultural House, and was the first among a whole series of activities dedicated by the Mission to International Women’s Day.

A pilot, a police instructor and a student from the Police Academy, a patrol policewoman, a representative of the Mtskheta-Mtianeti Police Women’s Association, as well as a German policewoman currently working as a monitor in FOM spoke to the young audience. They discussed their experiences as professionals acting in a field of work commonly associated with men rather than with women. The students thus had the opportunity to learn about the various challenges faced by professional women during the course of their career, but also, most importantly, about the courage and determination needed on the path to success.
The students showed interest and curiosity in the meeting, asking many questions. EUMM-FOM offered symbolic prizes for the five best questions, as chosen by the speakers.

A similar event is due to take place on 9 March, in Mtskheta Cultural House, involving senior graders from the two Mtskheta public schools.

The motto of International Woman’s Day this year is ‘Connecting girls, inspiring futures’ and EUMM Field Offices in Zugdidi, Gori and Mtskheta are organizing many different events. The main event for all Field Offices is the concert tour of three well-known Georgian girl bands: Candy that won the 2011 Junior Eurovision, Mari Dari and Bzikebi that also successfully participated.

During the concerts the singers also take the opportunity to have a discussion with the audience about their way to success.

Concert dates, times and locations:
6 March, 16:00 Mtskheta Cultural House
7 March, 16:00 Gori Educational and Cultural Center (Kombinati)
8 March, 16:00 Zugdidi Shalva Dadiani Dramatic Theatre
