On Thursday 15 March, the Head of the EU Monitoring Mission, Ambassador Tyszkiewicz, welcomed to the Mission HQ in Tbilisi a delegation of French Senators and a French journalist currently visitingGeorgia. The delegation, representing a range of political groups in the Senate, was led by M. Jean –Marie Bockel, a former Government Minister and currently a member of the Foreign Affairs, Defence and Armed Forces Committee and a member of the French delegation to the PACE.
Our French guests were briefed on the role and work of the Mission, the progress that has been made over the last three years in terms of stabilization and the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism meetings as well as the difficulties and future challenges. They were very interested in the Mission’s view of the security situation in the areas adjacent to the Administrative Boundary Lines, the number of incidents and detentions that have taken place, and the prospects for progress towards conflict resolution. They thanked the EUMM for a very valuable and informative presentation and discussion.
