The European Union Monitoring Mission has supported the initiative of the NGO Youth Vision Georgia to organise a public lecture and a debate competition for university students in Tbilisi about the EU. The first event was held at the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University where, among other presentations, Gerard A. Fischer, Deputy Head of the EUMM explained the mandate, work and structure of the Mission in Georgia, and also talked about recent achievements and future challenges. The large audience was really motivated and an interesting question and answer session developed after the opening speeches.
EU Day is celebrated on 9 May. To mark the occasion Field Office Gori of EUMM is organising presentations about European Integration , whilst Field Office Zugdidi is putting up an EU stand in the town centre and organising a local volleyball tournament. As well as celebrating the European Union, EUMM is using all these events to help people understand better the Mission’s role and work.
