On 14 February Mr Chris Kendall, Senior Political Adviser for relations with Georgia in the European External Action Service, visited EUMM Field Office Gori.
Florentin Dicu, the Deputy Field Office Chief gave a detailed briefing about the general work of the EUMM on the ground and the current situation along the Administrative Boundary Line (ABL) to South Ossetia. He explained that monitors patrol day and night, seven days a week to ensure there is no return to hostilities and to report any incidents. Mr Kendall was particularly interested in the confidence building aspect of the Mission’s work and the incident reporting, especially the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) meetings and the use of the hotline. The visitor joined a patrol to Kveshi and was deeply impressed by the professional way it was conducted. Mr Kendall also answered some questions for the EUMM Radio Show that will be on air on 20 February.
