On 19 February Mr. Shu Uchida, Political Attaché at the Embassy of Japan in Georgia, visited EUMM Field Office Gori. Hans Schneider, the Field Office Chief gave a general briefing about the mandate of EUMM and the current security situation along the Administrative Boundary Line (ABL) to South Ossetia. He explained that monitors patrol day and night, seven days a week to ensure there is no return to hostilities and to report any incidents to the EU policy makers.
Mr. Uchida joined a patrol to the ABL to see how the Mission implements its mandate. He was particularly interested in livelihood and freedom of movement issues of the local population.
A few days before Mr Uchida paid a visit to Field Office Mtskheta and joined one of their patrols to the ABL.
The visitor also gave an interview for the EUMM radio programme that will be on Trialeti Radio on 27 February. (The audio material of the interview will be available on EUMM Facebook after.)
