The President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Mr. Rosen Plevneliev, visited EUMM Mission Headquarters during an Official Visit to Georgia. He also laid a wreath at Heroes’ square in Tbilisi, the site of so much tragedy during the recent floods.
Mr. Plevneliev thanked Head of Mission Kęstutis Jankauskas for his presentation about the roles and activities of EUMM, and stressed that what EUMM does is extremely important especially as far as the rest of Europe is concerned. In particular, he paid tribute to the work of the Bulgarian members of EUMM and added that Bulgarians are invaluable members of teams wherever they serve and tend to integrate extremely well with the local population – he cited a shared heritage with Georgia even going back to a Bulgarian monastery in Georgia dating from 1085 A.D. Finally he said that Bulgaria will stay engaged and will continue to support the mission, because the information that the EU receives from EUMM are becoming even more important into the future.
Later Mr. Plevneliev will attend the 12th International Conference – "Georgias European Way" in Batumi, organised by the Office of the State Minister of Georgia on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration.
