The EU Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) pilot course ‘Safety and Security Awareness Training’ (Mobile Safety and Field Security), was organised by the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in partnership with the European Security and Defence College, Brussels, Belgium. Twelve personnel from the civilian EUCAP Sahel Mali Mission, Africa, participated.
The course took place from 09-13 October at EUMM Headquarters, Tbilisi, Georgia. This training is designed for EU CSDP Missions and Operations.
The core aims of the course include:
•
Familiarises and systemises the knowledge and practical skills in the safe and effective usage of vehicles in remote areas without technical support;
•
Contributes to sustaining front of mind security and situational awareness, reinforces a safety and security awareness mind-set, and develops confidence within the individual and the team.
Previously, EUMM Georgia conducted a similar course for the EU Advisory Mission in Ukraine. Relevant EU structures have recognised EUMM’s particular knowledge and expertise in specific areas. Personnel and expertise exchanges such as these are important for every CSDP Mission.
EUCAP Sahel Mali is a civilian mission based in Bamako, Mali. It was launched on the 15 January 2015 to assist the Malian Internal Security Forces with reasserting the governments control over the complete country.
