Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Belgium visited the EU Monitoring Mission

On 6 July, the Head of the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in Georgia, Mr. Erik Høeg, welcomed H.E. Mr. Didier Reynders, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs of The Kingdom of Belgium.

Mr. Høeg gave a general overview of the present mandate, operations and activities of the EUMM. The Head of Mission highlighted the important role of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) meetings and of the Mission-facilitated hotline in maintaining communications between all the parties to manage security on the ground. Mr. Høeg thanked the Belgian authorities for the continuing contribution and for the political support to the EUMM. 

H.E. Mr. Reynders expressed his gratitude to the EUMM for its essential contribution to regional security and stability. Foreign Minister Reynders also appreciated the continuing efforts by the Mission to improve the quality of monitoring and reporting, including by technological upgrades. During his visit, the Foreign Minister also had the opportunity to briefly meet with Belgian monitors currently deployed to the EUMM. 

The meeting took place in the context of a one-day visit by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs of The Kingdom of Belgium to Georgia.

Belgium has five experts currently deployed to the EUMM.
