Tbilisi, 02 June 2021 – The Head of the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in Georgia, Ambassador Marek Szczygieł, met the Chair of the EU Integration Committee Maka Botchorishvili at the Georgian Parliament in Tbilisi on 02 June.
During the conversation, the Head of Mission informed the Chairperson that the Mission continued to implement its mandate, including through regular patrols on the ground, despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
They discussed the protracted closures of controlled crossing points and the socio-economic and humanitarian consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly on the conflict-affected communities living along the Administrative Boundary Lines.
They also discussed issues of hybrid threats and disinformation, as well as prospects of Georgia in its path to European integration and related challenges.
The Chair of the EU Integration Committee stressed her appreciation for EUMM’s continuous presence along the Administrative Boundary Lines, which, according to her, represents the European Union’s steadfast commitment to maintaining stability in Georgia and in the wider region.
