Today, Head of the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in Georgia, Ambassador Marek Szczygieł, had an introductory meeting with the UNICEF Representative in Georgia, Mr. Ghassan Khalil.
The Head of Mission informed Mr. Khalil about the Mission’s monitoring activities and underlined that EUMM maintained its presence and visibility at the Administrative Boundary Lines with Abkhazia and South Ossetia throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Mr Khalil in turn elaborated on the various projects that UNICEF implements, including its support for children and women in Abkhazia to access quality health, education, and social services.
In the course of the meeting, they focused on matters pertaining to access to education, including in the breakaway Abkhazia, the challenges posed by the pandemic, but also initiatives to work with and empower younger people in Georgia.
Mr Szczygieł and Mr Khalil agreed to be in touch regularly to facilitate information exchanges on matters of common concern.
