Tbilisi, 26 September 2022 – Members of the Austria-South Caucasus Parliamentary Friendship Group, headed by Chairman Andreas Minnich, paid a visit to the European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM) today. EUMM Deputy Head of Mission, Tibor Kozma, hosted the delegation on a visit to the Administrative Boundary Line (ABL) with South Ossetia.
Deputy Head of Mission, Tibor Kozma, welcomed the visitors in Didi Khurvaleti village and briefed them on the latest security developments along the South Ossetian ABL. In the divided village of Didi Khurvaleti, the visitors saw how ongoing ‘borderisation’ activities and features, such as fences and a watchtower, negatively affect the communities living along the ABL. The briefing focused on the restrictions that ‘borderisation’ cause to the freedom of movement of the local population and the challenges that this poses in terms of access to education, healthcare, property, or religious sites.
At the end of their visit, the delegation members expressed their gratitude for the instructive visit and EUMM’s contribution to stability in Georgia and the wider region.
