On 20th July 2015, an extraordinary meeting under the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) took place in Ergneti, co-facilitated by Kęstutis Jankauskas, the Head of the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM), and Ambassador Angelo Gnaedinger, the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-office for the South Caucasus.
The IPRM was called to discuss the current security situation and in particular the recent events in the Tsitulebani and Orchosani areas. The co-facilitators appreciated the commitment of all participants to use the IPRM for open and frank discussions of these developments. While the discussion revealed differences in perceptions regarding the origins of these events, the participants committed themselves to take the necessary measures to keep the situation calm, as it has evolved over the last couple of days.
This was welcomed by the co-facilitators who asked the participants to focus on the impact of the events on the daily lives of the local residents. Access by the farmers to their land was discussed and further information regarding the harvest was offered to be communicated through the hotline in the coming days.
The next regular IPRM meeting will take place on 30th July.
