Today, the President of Georgia H.E. Giorgi Margvelashvili received the Head of the EU Monitoring Mission, Kęstutis Jankauskas, whose appointment as Head of Mission ends soon.
Both discussed the security situation in Georgia and the EU Monitoring Mission’s contribution to maintaining stability and security on the ground. The President expressed his sincere appreciation for the work of the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia in general and the Head of Mission’s contribution in particular.
The President awarded Mr. Jankauskas with the Order of Honour of Georgia for his ‘personal contribution to strengthening the EUMM’s role and efficiency, and his fruitful efforts in providing peace and safety in Georgia’.
While accepting the award, Mr. Jankauskas said that this is an extraordinary honour for him and he accepts this award as recognition of the input of every Mission member, as well as of the European Union’s contribution to security and stability in Georgia and the wider region.
Mr. Jankauskas is leaving his current position as the Head of Mission on the 31st of August, 2017.
