On 3 May, the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM) together with the EU Delegation in Georgia launched the 2018 ‘Special Prize for Peace Journalism’. The launch was held on ‘World Press Freedom Day’.
The ‘EUMM Special Prize for Peace Journalism’ is one of the seven categories established in the framework of the ‘EU Prize for Journalism’, organised by the EU Delegation in Georgia. The ‘EUMM Special Prize for Peace Journalism’ is awarded for the best conflict-sensitive journalistic work contributing to confidence building and peace in the context of armed conflicts in Georgia. The EUMM seeks to promote professional integrity, fair, ethical, sensitive, balanced and prejudice free reporting in the region. The winner of this category will receive a one-month fellowship with the Institute of War and Peace Reporting (IWPR) in London. The EUMM partner in this award is the IWPR, based in Tbilisi.
“Through this award we want to encourage reporting on conflict issues of high professional standards as well as journalism that builds bridges between divided communities”, noted Erik Høeg, Head of the EUMM, at the launch of the ‘EUMM Special Prize for Peace Journalism’.
The deadline for submission of entries is 15 October 2018. The application form, rules and submission guidelines are available at http://www.euprizejournalism.ge/
